On June 1st the Service Learning Committee celebrated Alvaro, the club's previous chair, by throwing him a surprise farewell party. The core members of the 10% committee and previous members of the SL core committee were invited to eat pizza, drink beverages, and spend quality time together. The purpose of this event was to say a big thank you and to express admiration for all Alvaro's contributions to the club. The current chairs created slides where others could write a comment and put a picture that represented the type of person Alvaro was for them. By the end of this incredible lunch everyone was sad that such a good leader had to leave, but also happy that he is going to college and entering a new stage in his life. Mr. Hendricks mentioned, "In 9th grade I immediately saw how much potential that kid had and today it's really gratifying to see the person he's become". When saying this, he talked for everyone, we couldn't be more proud to see how much Alvaro has contributed to local communities with service. Alyssa said it was clear how much he loved doing what he did as chair of SL and that he inspired her as the current SL chair. The positive impacts of Alvaro's efforts don't only last during the time he is the Chair, they continue impacting members who learned from him and with him. This whole experience isn't a good buy but only a see you soon.
